Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?

camelCase starts with a lowercase letter (myVariableName); PascalCase starts with an uppercase letter (MyClassName). Both remove spaces and capitalise the start of each following word.

What is snake_case used for?

Common for variable and file names in Python, Ruby and many database column names: words are lowercase, separated by underscores.

What is kebab-case used for?

Common in URLs, HTML/CSS attributes, and file names on the web: words are lowercase, separated by hyphens.

Does it handle accented letters and punctuation?

UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case and Sentence case keep punctuation and accents as-is. camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case strip punctuation, since those formats can’t contain it.
