Compare two texts

See exactly what changed between two versions of a text.

Ignore
Compare

Two versions of a contract, a config file before and after an edit, the email you wrote and the one that came back: the changes are usually small and hidden in a wall of identical text.

This lines the two up and marks what was added and what was removed. Line by line for documents and code, word by word for prose where a sentence was rewritten.

Case and extra spaces can be ignored, which removes most of the noise when two files were formatted differently.

How to use it

  1. Paste the original on the left and the new version on the right.
  2. Choose line or word comparison.
  3. Read the marked result, or show only the lines that changed.

Frequently asked questions

What do the colours mean?

Green with a plus is in the new version only; red with a minus was in the original only. Everything else is unchanged.

Can I compare two files?

Open them and paste their contents. Nothing is uploaded either way, so even sensitive documents stay on your device.

Why does a small edit mark the whole line as changed?

Line mode compares whole lines. Switch to word-by-word to see the change inside the sentence.

Is there a size limit?

Comparison is capped at a few thousand lines per side, which keeps it instant. For whole codebases, a real diff tool or git is the right instrument.
