Whenever the format allows it, the trim is done by copying the original video data directly rather than re-encoding it, so there’s no quality loss and it finishes almost instantly. When that’s not possible for a particular file, it falls back to a normal re-encode automatically.

Frequently asked questions
Does trimming reduce quality?
Usually no: whenever possible, the original video data is copied as-is rather than re-encoded, so there’s no generation loss. If your file’s format can’t be copied directly, it’s re-encoded automatically at a high quality instead.
Why does the cut sometimes start a fraction of a second early or late?
When copying data directly (the fast, lossless path), the cut can only happen at existing keyframes, which are usually a second or two apart. If you need a frame-exact cut, use the compress tool instead, which always re-encodes.
Is there a length limit?
No limit imposed by us — it depends on your device’s memory, since everything happens locally.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Trimming happens entirely in your browser using its built-in video engine (WebCodecs); the file never leaves your device.
