How does compressing to a target size work?

We re-encode your image at different quality levels and keep the best-looking version that fits under your limit. If a photo is so detailed that it can’t fit at a reasonable quality, we slightly reduce its dimensions instead of making it blurry.

How are PNG files compressed?

We smartly reduce the number of colours to 256 or fewer (like TinyPNG or pngquant) and keep transparency. The image looks almost identical while the file is often 60–80% lighter. Logos and screenshots with few colours are kept pixel-perfect.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your images are never sent to us or anyone else, which is also why it’s so fast.

Which image formats are supported?
