Generate a favicon

Turn a logo into favicon.ico, the PNG icons and the HTML to paste — in one ZIP.

Your logo or picture or click to choose files You can also paste an image with Ctrl+V

A favicon used to be one 16-pixel file. Now a site needs an .ico for browsers, a 180-pixel icon for iPhones, 192 and 512-pixel icons for Android and installable apps, and a manifest to tie them together.

Drop in a square logo and you get all of it, plus the four lines of HTML to paste into your <head>.

The preview shows the small sizes at their real scale, which is the only honest way to find out whether your logo survives being 16 pixels wide. Padding and a background colour are there for when it doesn’t.

How to use it

  1. Drop in a square logo or picture (SVG and PNG work best).
  2. Choose whether the background stays transparent, and add padding if the icon feels cramped.
  3. Download the ZIP and copy its files to the root of your site.
  4. Paste the HTML snippet into your <code>&lt;head&gt;</code>.

Frequently asked questions

What’s in the ZIP?

favicon.ico (containing 16, 32 and 48-pixel versions), favicon-32.png, apple-touch-icon.png (180 px), icon-192.png, icon-512.png, a site.webmanifest and a head.html with the markup to paste.

Do I still need an .ico file?

It’s the safest fallback: browsers and other software look for /favicon.ico by default, so having it costs nothing and avoids odd gaps.

Why does my logo look like mush at 16 pixels?

Because detail can’t survive that size. Favicons work best as one letter, one shape, high contrast. The preview is there so you find out now rather than after deploying.

Can I use a photo?

You can, but photos rarely read at icon sizes. A cropped, high-contrast detail works better than the whole picture.
