Frequently asked questions
How accurate is it?
Very good on clear, high-contrast text (screenshots, scans, printed documents), less reliable on handwriting, low-resolution photos, or unusual fonts. Always proofread the result.
Does it work on handwriting?
It’s built for printed text and works poorly on handwriting. For handwritten notes you’ll get inconsistent results.
What languages does it support?
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Turkish and Indonesian. Pick the language above the image before reading it: the right language makes a real difference on accented text. Each language pack is downloaded by your browser the first time you use it, then cached.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Recognition happens locally in your browser using a downloaded model; the image itself never leaves your device.
Why is the first run slower than the next one?
The first image on a page load has to download the recognition engine (a few MB); after that it’s cached by your browser and later images on the same page are faster.
