Facebook covers are awkward because the same image is cropped differently on desktop and on a phone — the phone shows a narrower slice from the middle. The practical answer is to keep every word well inside the centre and treat the outer edges as decoration.
Two sizes here: 1640 × 924 for a profile or page cover, and 1920 × 1005 for an event, which Facebook crops less aggressively.
On a personal profile your picture also overlaps the lower-left corner on desktop, so leave that area clear.

- Rewrite the name and tagline, keeping them near the middle.
- Download the PNG and upload it as your cover.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Facebook cover photo?
Upload at 1640 × 924. Facebook displays it around 820 × 312 on desktop and crops a narrower portion on mobile, so the larger upload keeps it sharp on high-resolution screens.
Why is my cover cropped differently on my phone?
Because it is — desktop and mobile show different slices of the same file. Keep text within the middle 60% or so and it survives both.
What about the profile picture overlapping?
On a personal profile the round photo sits over the lower-left on desktop. Leave roughly the left fifth clear of anything important.
Is an event cover a different size?
Yes, 1920 × 1005 works well for events and is cropped less. It is the second option in the size menu.
