Convert JPG to SVG
Trace a JPG into vector shapes, with smoothing to keep JPEG noise out of the result.
Works best on flat artwork — logos, icons, line drawings, screenshots. Photographs can be traced too, but every shade becomes another shape, so expect a large file and a poster-like result rather than a faithful copy.
JPGs bring a problem PNGs do not: compression artefacts. The faint 8 × 8 blocking around edges is invisible when you look at the picture and very visible to a tracer, which turns each block boundary into its own little shape.
So this page starts with a smoothing pass before tracing, and a larger palette than the flat-artwork preset. The smoothing is what stops a clean photo of a sign turning into a thousand fragments.
Be realistic about photographs. Tracing a portrait or a landscape gives you a stylised, poster-like image, not a vector reproduction — that is inherent to the technique, not a setting you can turn up.

Frequently asked questions
Will my photo come out looking like the original?
No, and no tracer will manage that. Vector shapes cannot represent continuous gradients, so a photo becomes bands of flat colour. It looks deliberate at 8–16 colours and merely noisy at 60 — fewer is usually the better-looking choice.
What does the smoothing slider actually do?
It blurs the image slightly before tracing, so JPEG blocking and sensor noise merge into their surroundings instead of becoming shape boundaries. Raise it for heavily compressed files, drop it to zero for clean graphics.
The file is enormous. What now?
Cut the colour count first — it has more effect than anything else — then raise “Remove specks” and lower the detail slider. If the file is still large, the image is probably not a good candidate for tracing.
I want to enlarge a photo without it going blurry.
