How this works
- It keeps time from the clock, not from ticks — browsers slow a background tab down to one update a second and stop it altogether on a sleeping phone. Counting frames would drift badly; this works out the remaining time from when you pressed Start, so it is right whenever you look at it.
- The tab title shows the countdown — so you can leave it in a background tab and still see how long is left without switching to it.
- The alarm needs one click first — browsers only allow sound after you interact with the page, so pressing Start is what lets the alarm play later. If you never press it, nothing will sound.
- Nothing is recorded — no account, no history, nothing sent anywhere. Reloading the page starts over.
The Pomodoro technique is one rule: work in a fixed block with no interruptions, then stop. Twenty-five minutes is the usual block, which is why this page opens with it already set.
Press start and leave it. The countdown appears in the tab title, so this can sit in a background tab while you work and still tell you how long is left, and the alarm sounds when the block ends. A short break is traditionally five minutes — the presets are right there.
There is no account, no streak to maintain and nothing to sign up for. The value of the technique is the timer, not a dashboard about the timer.
How to use it
- Press start — 25 minutes is already set.
- Work until the alarm.
- Take five: press the 5 min preset and start again.
- After four blocks, take a longer break.
Frequently asked questions
Why 25 minutes?
It is long enough to get properly into something and short enough that starting does not feel like a commitment. Nothing is magic about the number — if 50 minutes suits your work better, the presets and the custom fields are there.
Does it track how many blocks I have done?
No. That would need an account and storage, and the technique works perfectly well without either. Count them on paper if you want to.
Can I use it in a background tab?
Yes, and it is designed for it: the remaining time is calculated from the clock rather than counted ticks, and it appears in the tab title.
What about the break timer?
Press the 5 min preset and start again. Using one timer for both keeps the page simple and means there is nothing to configure.
