How this works
- Nothing is uploaded — the file is decoded and re-encoded by your own browser, so there is no queue, no size limit beyond your device’s memory, and your recording never reaches anyone else.
- MP3 is the interesting one — no browser ships an MP3 encoder, only a decoder, which is why most free converters are servers. This loads a small encoder into the page on demand instead.
- Cutting is exact — set the start and end by ear with the player, then use the playhead button to snap a marker to where you are. What you keep is what you hear between them.
- Video files work too — drop an MP4 or a MOV and the audio track comes out on its own. The picture is discarded.
WAV is uncompressed audio: no encoding, nothing discarded, and about ten megabytes a minute. Audio editors, samplers, some transcription tools and a lot of older software want it and nothing else.
Converting an MP3 to WAV does not restore quality — the detail the MP3 discarded is gone for good, and the WAV is simply a larger container for the same sound. It is worth doing when a program demands WAV or you are about to edit, and not otherwise.
The conversion is exact in the sense that matters: the WAV contains precisely what the MP3 decoded to, with no further loss.

Frequently asked questions
Will this improve the sound?
No. Nothing can put back what a lossy encoder threw away. The WAV is bigger, not better — useful for editing, pointless for listening.
Why is the file so large?
Uncompressed stereo at 48 kHz is about 10 MB a minute. That is what WAV is. FLAC is lossless too and roughly half the size, if whatever you are using accepts it.
What sample rate do I get?
The file's own, preserved through the conversion. Nothing is resampled unless you are joining files of different rates.
