Frequently asked questions
Should I post square or portrait on Instagram?
Portrait (4:5, 1080 × 1350) takes more room in the feed and tends to catch more attention. Square is the classic grid look. Both are here.
Why do my photos look worse after posting?
Instagram re-compresses large uploads. Starting at exactly 1080 pixels wide avoids the resize step, which is where most of the softening comes from.
What about the profile grid?
The grid now shows posts cropped to a 3:4 rectangle, so keep the subject near the centre of a square post.
