Frequently asked questions
Why does my iPhone use HEIC?
It stores the same quality in roughly half the space. You can switch the camera to "Most Compatible" in Settings → Camera → Formats if you’d rather get JPGs from the start.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
At the default 92% quality the difference is invisible for photos. The JPG will be bigger than the HEIC, which is normal.
Do Live Photos keep their motion?
No, a JPG is a still image: you get the key frame. The video part of a Live Photo is a separate file.
Is the location data kept?
No, the converted JPG is written without the original metadata, which also means no GPS location travels with it.
